The Connecticut Greenways Council, a legislatively appointed advisory board working through the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, is pleased to see that many Connecticut residents have discovered the pleasures of exploring the numerous trails that crisscross state, town and land trust properties. The gaps in the trail have shrunk to the point that the trail is truly a single entity and so it seems fitting to merge our websites as our groups increasingly work together. Heritage Park Loop is a 5.1 kilometer moderately trafficked loop trail located near Farmington, Michigan that features a lake and is rated as moderate. Two fawns & several baby rabbits allowed me to visit within a foot! Following the rules of the trail, including keeping your pet leashed and close to your person, will help you avoid unwelcome attention from wild animals, whose presence in our midst we respect, at a distance. Went with several adult friends and their children on a very hot day, when thankfully the splash pad was open. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from May until November. The route takes you through all different kinds of scenery; on regular paved trails, through heavy trees, then on maintained trails through more open areas... kinda crazy. Did you know? At the first loop, the trail doesn't quite exist a.k.a you'll have to bushwack without a trail. I would tweak this route a bit to avoid the first loop bushwacking if you intend to run at a decent pace and on purpose made trails. We saw a fawn just outside of a clearing, just laying there and wasn't startled by us. I couldn’t complete that loop because it was overgrown and my fear of ticks overpowered my need to finish the loop. The trail appears at the top of the hill (if you run it you'll know what I mean), and then the rest of the route is good. Lots of people, nice views, lots of trails to take, good signage. The spray park is great for kids. We help area towns fund trail construction, enhancements and ongoing maintenance. HOWEVER, this particular route is a bit strange. It's a big park, with numerous paths to walk by. A large picnic area is located at the north end of the park.
