Remnants of its fabled past have made it irresistible to Hollywood producers, parts of "Gladiator" were filmed here and "Game of Thrones.". In 2018, 60 Minutes reported on the murder of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia and the corruption allegations plaguing the tiny European nation of Malta. Instead, the government put forward the Finance Minister, Edward Scicluna. For two years now almost everyone on Malta has been demanding to know who ordered Caruana Galizia’s murder – though the Labour party she routinely excoriated has shown scant interest in pursuing the case. Over the last three millennia, Malta has been conquered or colonized by just about every world power and each has left its mark. The smallest nation in the European Union is earning an unsavory reputation, with a series of scandals involving allegations of bribery, cronyism and money laundering. Where does this lead?
