Willing to overlook the obvious shortcomings, what with Keanu Reeves' stone faced performance, but when it descends into the morass of crypto-quasi doom and gloom environmentalist end-of-the world crap, I tuned out and just waited for the movie to either end or get better...unfortunately it didn't improve...thankfully it ended.
The original of 'The Day The Earth Stood Still' is an amazing masterpiece and I can see why people are quick to judge with this remake of the classic. The atmosphere of this movie is pure 1950's - capitalizing on the genuine fear that flying saucers or nuclear war could snuff us out at the speed of a gamma ray. The narrative is a relatively simple one, but the message is powerful. I wished it had been intentional, but it wasn't.

This is a great film, it is a bit like 2012 and is a great remake for the original, i have watched both and they are both good, i don't feel like one is better than the other as they are both unique but tell the same story. As monsters emerge from the sea to attack Earth, humanity fights back using giant robot warriors in this anime adaptation of the blockbuster film. My reason for two stars has nothing to do with the contents on the actual discs - the film is as brilliant as it ever was, all the extras are fantastic, excellent value for money.
