the spy who came in from the cold ending explained

Alec Leamas (Richard Burton) is the operative for the British Secret Service overseeing the field Agents and their activities in Berlin. The Brits expect Mundt's second in command, an East German Jew named Fiedler (Oskar Werner) who hates his ex-Nazi boss, to be the unsuspecting accomplice in this plan. Leamas hears Smiley shout: "The girl, where's the girl?" Everywhere that air of conspiracy which generates amongst people who have been up since dawn – of superiority almost, derived from the common experience of having seen the night disappear and the morning come.". The action of the novel takes place half a century ago. Then adds: "That's impossible, of course. She is duly shot as she tries to climb over – but Leamas still has the opportunity to make it to freedom. The person responsible for this bitter rant is Alec Leamas, the deadpan fiftysomething protagonist of John le Carré's 1963 novel The Spy Who Came In From the Cold. "Comrade Mundt took one precaution while the British, with Fiedler’s aid, planned his murder. Published in 1963, “The Spy Who Came in from the Cold” became an international bestseller and, as le Carré, Cornwell would become the preeminent spy novelist of his time. First, the very last sentence of the book must seem baffling to the vast majority of readers: "As he fell, Leamas saw a small car smashed between great lorries, and children waving cheerfully through the window." William Boyd explains why he keeps returning to Le Carré's great espionage novel 50 years after its first publication, Richard Burton in the 1965 film of The Spy Who Came in from the Cold. The opportunity to escape means nothing to him – but it does mean everything to him that the girl he is with, Liz Gold, innocent, unwittingly drawn into the Circus's plotting – should escape. We will refer to it … Control suggests that there is a vacancy, a desk job, that might interest him, but Leamas declines adamantly. Struggling with distance learning?
